Family Week

My niece was in town to spend a few days with my mom and dad while my brother and sister-in-law were on vacation.  I love this little lady and loved having the opportunity to spend so much time with her.

My dad's grandparents were Emma and Tom Kirby.  I was supposed to be named Emma after my great-grandmother, but a few days before I was born my great grandmother told my parents she didn't like her name, so they did a quick switch to Emily (and regretted it from time to time).  But my SIL loves the name - it's a family name on her side, too - so, 26 years later our family finally got our Emma.  And then 6 months after that, we added Thomas Kirby to the mix.  So, after four generations, my family has a Tom (Kirby) and Emma again.

We spent lots of time together over the weekend at my parents' house and took lots of trips to the park and playground.  Then, Emma and my mom came up to go swimming with Thomas and me on Monday.  Emma found Thomas's toys immediately and started playing.  Then Thomas woke up from his morning nap and sharing had to happen.  Younger cousins are such a pain, aren't they Em?

I caught this moment on camera and I'm kind of in love with it - Thomas had a blue block.  Emma wanted the blue block.  Emma thought she'd take the blue block - afterall, she'd had it all to herself only a few minutes earlier.  Thomas thought he'd put up a fight.  Emma won.

In other news, we bought the materials to build the banquette and I've been priming and painting instead of blogging.  I'll do better.
